Vicenza, Chiostro del Santuario

Here we have another beautiful arcaded courtyard, this one with a central well.

Notice the arches. They are nearly circular, but actually have the gothic form, with a discontinuity at the apex. Lovely as this space is, I think it suffers slightly from the failure to choose distinctly one form of the arch or the other (either is fine, although I have a preference for the gothic).

Notice also the carved rope framing each of the arches and the raised base for the columns, which provides seating, while the columns provide back rest.
