This is the only example we have here of a large courtyard and one that has been laid out as a garden, in this case quite formal, with the inclusion of a full surrounding arcade.
Notice that above the arcade is a loggia, which provides additional usable space of extremely high quality. Notice that the columns are very slender and quite closely spaced. The slenderness admits a great deal of light, and the close spacing is necessary to provide support for the loggia above.
