About carfree.com

Why We're Here

Carfree.com is dedicated to the proposition that urban life is not only possible but also better if transport is organized so that private automobiles are not used on the city's streets.

Acknowlegements

I thank the following people for their help in making this site possible:

My parents, Ann and Vance Crawford
Arin Verner for endlessly turning the crank
Piper Hollier for proof-reading and critique
Countless others who have helped to improve this site over the years

Technical Information

Most of the site is designed for 640 x 480 (or higher) resolution, but City Design requires at least 800 x 600 for best viewing. TrueColor (24 bits, "millions of colors") is strongly recommended.

Carfree cities past, present, and future: solutions to the problem of the urban automobile.

Carfree cities offer a solution to the vexing problem of the urban automobile while also providing a better quality of life, reduced energy consumption, and improved long-term sustainability. Carfree cities could be as beautiful as Venice, and the pleasant public spaces provide an ideal setting to foster a sense of community.
