Leira, Old City

I recently paid a brief visit to this small city, although I did not see this particular street. The castle on the hill dominates the scene from many locations, and it is doubtless the reason that this particular places was initially settled - the defensive position of a castle on this steep hill is rarely equaled.

The streets in this part of town are somewhat more than three meters wide, as is this one. However, most of the town is much more attractive than this scene. There are two reasons. First, the buildings are several stories tall instead of just one. Second, countless windows and doors give on to the street, preventing the rather forbidding quality of this street from arising.

This is one narrow street I wouldn't want to live on.
