Gruyeres, La Dent de Broc

While this may technically be a square, it really does not function as one. This is evidently a fairly small town, and the square is probably much too large for the largest crowd that it ever sees. The topography is complex and the grades are, in places, quite steep. The surface is convex near the well.

Some elements are fine. The buildings are quite good and of a scale suitable to a small town. The enclosure is complete.

Probably the worst problem is that elements of buildings have been permitted to obtrude into the space, which does great damage to the integrity of the square.

The plantings seem random and do not contribute at all.

Notice the hideous telephone pole right next to the well.

An instructive failure.
