Segovia largely follows the Italian hill town pattern - the urban area is almost entirely contained within the walls. It is actually common to see cities like this where the town has expanded outside the walls, often in along only one part of the wall, and usually centered on one or another of the gates. (This is, in fact, even true of Siena.) Most of the rest of the city basically borders on green space, usually agricultural.
