Venice, Il Bovolo

Il Bovolo is one of the lesser landmarks of Venice. Most tourists never find it, as it's tucked away off the main streets. It isn't very tall and doesn't offer a view of the entire city, but it is a secondary high place in Venice. The giant Campanile in Piazza San Marco offers magnificent views of Venice, although, strangely enough, the Grand Canal cannot be seen from there.

Il Bovolo is a modest structure that serves as a sort of neighborhood high place, just as many of the church towers would also offer local vistas, were they open to the public, which most of them are not.
