Strassburg, Place de la Cathédrale

I've seen this church in the flesh. It is simply overwhelmingly large, as you can see in the photograph - the building makes the people around it look tiny. It's built out of a bright red sandstone that must be very strong and of highly reliable structural properties, as many of the elements are amazingly thin (although you can't make them out here).

The scale of the church utterly dominates the buildings around it, which are not small themselves. Think what would happen if a skyscraper were built near this church - it would destroy the effect.
