Amsterdam, Achterburgwal

This is one of the first canals, right in the center of the city. It is considerably narrower than the grand canals built later, but it is still entirely serviceable. Today, alas, this view would be dominated by parked cars. Fortunately, not much else has changed, so Amsterdam still has a chance to seize its beautiful past, which it stubbornly refuses to do.
