Here we have what appears to be an incomplete adoption of the arcade - the other side of the street seems not to be furnished with arcades. While just a single building with an arcade is useful, the device works best when all buildings incorporate it.

If only some buildings have arcades, then the line of buildings has to be broken in order to leave room for sidewalks in front of the buildings that lack arcades.
